Tandem Press Lines – Fagor

Tandem Press Lines, featuring the WaveLine concept, are engineered to efficiently transfer large stamped parts—such as body sides, hoods, roofs, and double-door units—through extensive press tandem lines. These lines achieve high efficiency and output rates surpassing conventional systems, reaching up to 17 strokes per minute (spm) in XL-type press lines and up to 21 spm in L-type lines. The WaveLine concept enables presses to operate in continuous mode, reducing drawing and cutting speeds, minimising facility space usage, and decreasing clutch and brake maintenance tasks.

Key Features

The features of a Tandem Press line are:

  • High productivity in continuous mode that allows rates of up to 21 medium and large-size parts per minute in XL lines and L lines..
  • Total pressing force depending on the number of presses and the tonnage of each one. Head press typically between 25,000kN and 20,000kN in XL lines and 20,000kN and 12,000kN in L lines and following presses between 18,000kN and 10,000kN in XL lines and 8,000kN and 12,000kN in L lines.
  • The presses can be conventional mechanical presses or they can be Servo mechanical; or even a mix of both. Hybrid configuration allows the drawing performance to be improved barely reducing the total part throughput.
  • The stroke of the press will be designed to allow space for the automation to unload and load parts, thus optimising cycle times.
  • The dimensions of the presses can be between 3,600 mm x 1,800 mm, up to 5,000 mm x 2,600 mm, capable of processing medium and large car parts.
  • The installation is capable of handling 4,300mm x 2,100mm blanks, weighing around 60 kg each.
  • It is also able to work with double blanks with dimensions of 2,000mm x 2,100mm and 30 Kg each.
  • The lines can be additionally supplied with automatic dimensional quality control and automatic parts racking system.

The WaveLine Concept

The WaveLine concept has been developed to transfer large stamped parts, such as body side, hood, roof and double-door units through large press tandem lines. We deliver a new top level of performance in stamping press lines, be it conventional mechanical presses or be it servo presses. Our Tandem press lines operate at high levels of efficiency and deliver output ratings that exceed conventional systems, reaching to up to 17 spm in XL-type press lines and up to 21 spm in L-type ones.

The WaveLine working mode concept allows presses to run in continuous mode, reducing the drawing and cutting speed, and reducing the occupied space in the facility, as well as clutch and break maintenance tasks. The automation follows the motion of the presses automatically, even when the line speed increases or decreases based on production demands. WaveLine installations are, in all cases, lines with short die setup times as well as powerful help on HMI for operation and maintenance tasks.

The setup of the automatisation is more complex than the one in conventional press lines but once it is done the WaveLine adapts itself to the requirements of the production, optimising the installation in a quick and versatile manner.
